Many AI images share a recognizable look: glossy skin, perfect symmetry, dramatic lighting everywhere. If you want natural results, you need to ask for imperfection.
Ask for real-world texture
Words like "natural skin texture with pores", "slight film grain", "worn fabric", "dust" and "scuffs" pull images away from the plastic look.
Use photography language
Mention a specific camera setup: "35mm lens, f/2, natural window light", "shot on a phone camera", or "disposable camera flash". These cues push the model toward real photos.
Choose ordinary moments
"Candid", "unposed", "everyday" and "documentary style" create images that feel captured rather than staged.
Tone down the drama
- Use soft, overcast or window light instead of dramatic rim lighting.
- Ask for muted, natural color grading.
- Avoid words like "epic", "ultra-detailed", "masterpiece" and "8k".
Check the details
Look closely at hands, text, jewelry, reflections and backgrounds, which are common giveaways. Regenerate or edit those areas.
Example
A candid photo of a woman laughing while cooking in a small apartment kitchen,
natural window light, slight motion blur, everyday clutter on the counter,
35mm film look with subtle grain, muted colors.
