How to Create Music With AI

Oct 4, 2026 2 min read

AI music generators such as Suno and Udio can create complete songs with vocals and instruments from a short description. Other tools help with lyrics, chord progressions, mixing or voice. Whether you're a musician or have never played an instrument, AI opens up new ways to create.

Describe the sound, not an artist

A strong style prompt includes genre, mood, instruments, vocals and tempo:

Upbeat indie pop, warm and nostalgic, jangly guitars, punchy drums, airy female vocals, 118 BPM

Describing the sound in words gives better, more original results than naming artists, and many tools restrict artist names anyway.

Write lyrics with structure

Use section tags like [Verse], [Chorus] and [Bridge] so the AI knows how to arrange the song. Keep chorus lines short and singable, and use specific images instead of clichés. You can write lyrics yourself or draft them with an AI assistant first.

Generate, compare, refine

Generate several versions and pick the best. Many tools let you extend a song, regenerate a section or create variations. Small changes to the style description can change the result a lot.

Instrumentals for content

For videos and podcasts, ask for instrumental tracks with steady energy that leave room for a voiceover. Specify the length and whether it should fade out or end cleanly.

Rights and responsible use

  • Check the tool's terms for commercial use; they often depend on your plan.
  • Don't upload or imitate copyrighted songs or lyrics.
  • Don't clone real singers' voices without permission.
  • Be transparent about AI use where platforms require it.
