How to Create a Logo with AI (and What to Watch Out For)

Oct 6, 2026 2 min read

AI image generators are great for exploring logo directions quickly. A finished, professional logo usually needs a final pass in a vector design tool, but AI can get you to a strong concept fast.

Start with the brand, not the picture

Write down your brand name, what you do, three personality words and who your customers are. Ask a chatbot to suggest 5 visual concepts based on that before generating images.

A good logo prompt

A minimal flat vector logo mark for "Northpeak", an outdoor gear brand.
A simple mountain combined with a compass needle. Bold clean shapes,
strong silhouette, two colors: forest green and off-white.
Centered on a plain white background, no text, no gradients.

Tips

  • Ask for the symbol without text, then add the name yourself with a real font. AI text is often imperfect.
  • Request "flat", "vector", "simple" and "no gradients" for scalable results.
  • Test small: does it still read as a 32px favicon?
  • Check it in black and white.

Turning a concept into a real logo

Recreate or trace your favorite concept in a vector tool (Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape) so you have clean SVG files at any size.

Legal checks

  • Search to make sure it doesn't resemble existing trademarks.
  • Check your AI tool's terms for commercial use.
  • Consider a trademark search before investing heavily in a brand.
