There are dozens of AI image tools, but most people end up choosing between four families. Here's how they differ in practice.
Midjourney
Best for: beautiful, stylized artwork and moody photography with minimal effort. It has a strong "house style" and excellent composition, plus parameters like --ar for aspect ratio and --style raw for a more literal look.
DALL·E (in ChatGPT)
Best for: following detailed instructions conversationally, simple graphics and text inside images. You can ask for changes in plain language ("make the background blue"), which makes it beginner-friendly.
Flux
Best for: photorealism and accurate prompt following, including readable text. It's available through many apps and APIs and is a strong choice for product and lifestyle images.
Stable Diffusion
Best for: full control. It's open, can run on your own computer, and supports negative prompts, custom models, LoRAs and tools like ControlNet for poses and layouts. It has the steepest learning curve.
Quick comparison

A clear prose description of subject, setting, lighting and style works across all of them. Tool-specific parameters (like Midjourney flags) need adjusting when you switch.
