AI for Seniors: A Friendly Getting-Started Guide

Oct 7, 2026 1 min read

You don't need to be technical to use an AI assistant. If you can send a text message, you can ask an AI a question.

What it can help with

  • Explaining letters, bills or instructions in plain language
  • Writing emails, cards and messages to family
  • Recipes, gardening tips and hobby ideas
  • Planning trips and outings
  • Learning about history, nature or anything you're curious about
  • Remembering how to do things on your phone or computer

How to ask

Just type or speak naturally, as you would to a helpful friend: "Can you explain what this letter from my bank means?" or "Help me write a birthday message for my granddaughter who loves horses."

Use your voice

Many apps let you talk instead of typing, and can read answers aloud. This is great if typing is tiring or your eyesight isn't what it used to be.

Stay safe

  • Never share passwords, bank details or your full ID numbers.
  • Double-check health and money information with a professional.
  • Be wary of calls or messages that sound like family asking for money urgently; scammers can fake voices.
